The original 1912 greenhouse , named for longtime Park Board member Dr. David Gaiser , was heated with coal during the long Spokane winters.
The conservatory was almost closed during the Great Depression, but a narrow decision was made to close the park’s zoo instead.
During the 1974 World Expo people were allowed inside the greenhouse for the first time to view special floral displays. Currently the Conservatory acts as both a small indoor botanical garden and as a greenhouse for the park.
