This is the last painting in the “Spokane in Fall” series. I chose to paint the Manito Japanese Garden because of its breathtaking beauty and the serenity I feel when I’m there. I love the reflections in the pond, the stark white of the bridge and the contrast in textures between the rocks and the trees. It seems this is a painting that the more you look at it, the more you see.
The intense diversity of colors intertwined in the dense foliage was challenging and quite a departure from my standard subjects. I wanted to capture the mood and movement of this glorious Spokane landmark.
I hope you enjoy this new and final piece of the series. Hopefully this painting will remind you of why Manito Japanese Gardens is such a magnificent gift to Spokane. And maybe it’s time to go visit it again!
