Searching for just the right scene to photograph for my “Hidden Vineyard” painting in Napa Valley, I noticed the early morning winter sun was beginning to peek out over the mountain. Knowing that I had just a few moments of perfect light, I decided to drive into the first vineyard I came upon. Jumping out of the car, I began snapping away to capture the fast-moving sunrise. As I clicked away I found myself moving
from east to west where I was blessed with even more magical sight. As the sun continued to rise in the east, a lovely full moon was setting over the still sleeping Napa vineyard. The chilly February morning could not stop the winter sunlight from warming the sweet, little birdhouse. I was suddenly struck by the subtle colors of the scene and especially how the open grassy path seemed to pull me into the moonset. I knew right then, I had to capture this moment in watercolor.
